Gaucin is one of the most famous 'white' villages of Andalucia. It is found on the southern border of the Serrania de Ronda, Andalucia, and is surrounded by mountain peaks and is famed for its views to Africa. This spectacular location has attracted travellers through the ages, from famous highwaymen to Lord Byron, a temporary resident at the iconic Hotel Nacional.
There is now a thriving community of fine artists, craftspeople and writers, brought here by the inspiring views down to the Strait of Gibraltar, the rock itself and the Rif mountains of Morocco beyond. The Castillo del Aguila, originally a Roman fortification, sits, keeping watch above the village, and there are other ruins and forts to visit on the beautiful walks around the area, as well as plentiful flora and fauna to see. A traditional ‘pueblo Blanco’, there are festivals throughout the year to soak up the local flavour, not least at its many great restaurants.
Gaucin has growing popularity as a holiday destination due to its proximity to Gibraltar and Malaga airports and the Costa del Sol, bringing visitors all year round. It is a great investment opportunity for travel and holiday rental businesses, but its raw beauty alone would make it a beautiful place to call your home.
Our property is a beautiful traditional house, a charming rustic home with added guest apartments. If you are looking for a new adventure, a bird-watching business oportunity as well as a a home then you must consider this.
One of the more authentic properties available for sale in the village, this beautiful old townhouse is full of character. It epitomizes the classic Gaucin townhouse with internal private patio, shaded seating areas surrounded by well-established vegetation, cobbled patio floors, and half a meter thick stone walls avoiding sharp edges where possible giving the whole property a timeless and organic feel.
The property is divided into two main living areas by a lovely Andalusian patio giving you the possibility to run the property as aBed and Breakfast or have an independent rental accommodation separate from the main living area. There are many possibilities here, we have run bird-watching holidays here since 2009 with small groups, couples or individuals. For more on bird-watching see below.
The property is located on the most beautiful street in the village close to the church. it was also the central street in the village back in the mid 70’s to 80’s as the Sunday markets used to be held here when Gaucin was pretty much free of cars apart from the occasional equine tied up outside its owner’s door preparing to go and work in the countryside. Entering the property you have a gated entrance to the house leading directly onto the Andalucian Patio.
This leads you to the internal patio which in turn leads to a double bedroom on the ground floor and an office ( which could be turned into an adjoining bathroom ), and a staircase leading up the first floor which has a good-sized modern kitchen offset but rustic wooden beamed ceilings, a modern bathroom, and through to the main living room with open fireplace and dining area.
Moving past this part of the house through the patio you enter a very lushly plant-infused rustic walkway (we call it our 'grotto') with irregular walls and a very cool seating area from which you can enter the ground floor apartment with open plan kitchen and lounge and also has a small double bedroom and a beautiful bathroom.
The floor above is accessed by a staircase and features a lounge and kitchenette as you access it, with wood burning stove and a double bedroom on your left and a bathroom just across the hall.
The floor above has another double bedroom with direct access onto all three roof terraces, two on the same level as this bedroom, one area for dining another for sunbathing and lounging, and a roof terrace above with spectacular views of the whole village and down to the coast from an elevated position.
This Gaucin property has a lovely feel to it with lots of potential for a small bnb business or a lovely family home. It maintains all of its authentic character and is one of the more original houses in the village with all the authenticity of a Gaucin townhouse with classic Andalucian style and a touch of its Arabic heritage.
